The exam

Who can take the CCAR-P exam, what it costs, and how to register

The CCAR-P exam costs $175, and here is the part most guides leave out: it is not open to the general public. Certification is available to people at organisations in the Claude Partner Network, and registration requires a work email on a recognised partner company domain. A personal address will not get you through sign-up. The credential lasts 12 months, the pass mark is 720 out of 1000, and you may attempt any exam four times in a rolling year.

In short

  • $175 for CCAR-P. The three Foundations-level exams cost $99 to $125.
  • Partner-only. You need to be at a Claude Partner Network organisation and register with a company-domain email. Personal addresses are rejected.
  • Valid 12 months, then a free renewal assessment. A shorter cycle than most cloud certifications.
  • Four attempts per rolling 12 months, with waits of 14, 30 and 90 days after successive failures. Retakes cost full price.
  • Closed book and proctored through Pearson, online or at a test centre. No notes, no documentation, no AI assistants.
  • Exam content is confidential. You agree not to reproduce or discuss the questions anywhere, study groups and forums included.

The eligibility rule nobody mentions

Anthropic runs four role-based certifications, all described as credentials "built exclusively for Anthropic Partners". The certification FAQ puts the practical consequence plainly: "Certification is available to people at Claude Partner Network organizations. Registration requires a partner email address on a recognized company domain — personal email addresses will not work."

Which means the first question is not how to study. It is whether your employer is in the Claude Partner Network. If it is, somebody internally already has access to the Anthropic Partner Academy and can point you at registration. If it is not, you cannot simply buy a seat as an individual; firms apply to join the network at claude.com/partners. Whether Anthropic ever opens these exams to the public is not something they have said either way, so plan around the rule as it stands.

One thing does work in your favour. The certification belongs to you, not to your employer: Anthropic's policies state it "stays with you if you change jobs, and a partner can't reassign it to another person."

What each exam costs

CertificationCodeLevelPrice
Claude Certified Associate — FoundationsCCAO-FEntry, everyday use of Claude$99
Claude Certified Developer — FoundationsCCDV-FEngineers building on the API$125
Claude Certified Architect — FoundationsCCAR-FArchitects designing agent systems$125
Claude Certified Architect — ProfessionalCCAR-PAdvanced: integration, governance, evaluation$175
List prices. Partner-tier discounts apply on top.

Discounts follow partner standing, not anything you do. Select, Preferred and Global Premier partners receive 50% off automatically, and Global Premier partners have a 100% discount running through 31 August 2026. Worth asking your partner manager before you pay list price, and worth asking twice if you are planning a retake, since retakes are charged at the full fee with the same discounts applied.

The Associate exam is the one exception on standing. It does not count toward Claude Partner Network tier eligibility; the other three do.

How the sitting itself works

Every exam is proctored and delivered through Pearson, either online with OnVUE or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Online proctoring has real network and workspace requirements, so run the system check well before the day and not fifteen minutes before your slot.

  • Closed book. No notes, no documentation, no AI assistants. Browser translation tools are not permitted under the Pearson platform either, which is worth knowing if you were counting on one.
  • Scores appear immediately on completion, along with the objective-level breakdown.
  • 720 is the pass mark, the same for all four certifications, on a 100–1000 scale.
  • Valid for 12 months from the date you earn it, with a free renewal assessment to keep it current.

If you fail: the retake schedule

AttemptWait before you may sit again
After the 1st failure14 days
After the 2nd failure30 days
After the 3rd failure90 days
Cap4 attempts per exam, per rolling 12 months

Those escalating waits should change how you treat a first attempt. Sitting cold to see what it is like costs $175 and puts a fortnight between you and the next try. A free practice mock costs nothing and produces the same diagnostic, which is the whole argument for sitting a full-length practice form before you book.

The genuine consolation is the score report. Because it grades all 38 objectives, a failure arrives with a specific list of what to fix, and 14 days is enough to fix three objectives if you know which three they are.

The confidentiality rule, and what it means for study material

Anthropic's certification policies are unusually direct here: "Exam content is confidential. By taking an exam you agree not to share, reproduce, or discuss the questions in any form, including in study groups and online forums."

The consequences are listed too. A forced retake, being restricted to test-centre delivery, an invalidated result, a suspended or revoked certification, or being barred from the programme. "Serious cases such as theft of exam content or organized cheating may be referred for legal action."

Before you spend $175 and a 14-day retake window, find out where you stand. Full length, on the clock, scored against the same cut.

Common questions

Can I take the Claude Certified Architect exam without being a partner?

No. Certification is available to people at organisations in the Claude Partner Network, and registration requires a work email on a recognised partner company domain. Personal email addresses will not complete sign-up. Firms that are not yet partners can apply to join at claude.com/partners.

How much does the Claude Certified Architect — Professional exam cost?

$175 at list price. Select, Preferred and Global Premier partners receive an automatic 50% discount, and Global Premier partners have a 100% discount through 31 August 2026. The Foundations-level exams cost $99 for Associate and $125 each for Developer and Architect.

How long is the certification valid?

Twelve months from the date you earn it, after which a free renewal assessment keeps it current. That is shorter than the two or three years common in cloud certifications, and it exists because partner tier standing is measured on actively certified practitioners.

How many times can you retake it?

Up to four attempts per exam in any rolling 12-month period, with mandatory waits of 14 days after a first failure, 30 after a second and 90 after a third. Each retake is charged at the full exam fee, with partner discounts applied.

Is the exam open book?

No. Exams are closed book and proctored through Pearson, online or at a test centre. Notes, documentation, translation tools and AI assistants are all prohibited.

Does the certification belong to me or my employer?

To you. Anthropic's policies state that the certification stays with you if you change jobs and that a partner cannot reassign it to another person, although it does count toward your employer's partner tier while you are there.
